Additionally, this year students will be doing their course selections online.  Parents who are interested in assisting their son/daughter with online course selections are invited to attend a 30-minute information session in Room 103 regarding myBlueprint also being held on February 23rdThere are four sessions available - 1:30 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm and space is limited to 30 participants per session.  If you are interested in attending one of the sessions please sign-up online at the same site you book Parent/Teacher interview appointments.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Online registration must be completed before you can schedule interview appointments or register for the myBlueprint Workshop.  This can be completed at any time by logging into the Malvern School Appointments system.  If you completed the online registration process last year, your user ids and passwords are still valid and active.

Can you identify the people who vandalized our memorial?

On Sunday, November 6, 2011, police responded to a damage call at 55 Malvern Avenue. It was reported that on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 12:50 a.m., four people were responsible for defacing our war memorial.

Police have now released a second security camera video of suspects.

Anyone with information on the vandalism to our War Memorial is asked to call 55 Division at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477). Change of Date - Parent/Teacher Conferences

There has been a change of date for our next Parent Teacher conferences. Initially they were scheduled for April 19, 2012 to stay in line with the official reporting timelines as prescribed by the new Assessment and Evaluation and Reporting document entitled Growing Success.

It became evident to many full year schools in the TDSB like Malvern that April 2012 was too long of a gap from the initial November 2011 report card for parents and students to get a mark update and undertake any needed corrective actions. It was decided that all students would received an additional interim report card on February 15th, 2012. This report card will consist of a mark only in each subject area for your son or daughter. At that time parents will have the opportunity to electronically book Parent/Teacher conferences set for the new date of February 23rd, 2012 from 2-4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. There will be a late start on February 24th the following morning.  April 19th and 20th will now operate on regular schedules.

The second official report card with marks and comments will be issued to students on April 12, 2012 but there will be no formal interviews at that time. It is hoped that these changes will help ensure that students and parents will be more fully informed about their progress at school and help ensure their ongoing academic success. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have questions or concerns about this matter.

Homework Help & School Support has arrived!

Homework Help & School Support has arrived!

The Ministry of Education and the Toronto DSB have partnered to expand an exciting free online initiative to support all students registered in grades 7-10 at TDSB schools.

Do you have a child registered in grades 7-10 who struggles to understand how to find slope? Maybe your teenager is struggling with ratios? Extra help is now available.

Free Online Math Tutoring Available

In the evening, your child can get math support at Homework Help (http://homeworkhelp.ilc.org).  Your child can now log in to Homework Help Sunday-Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for one-on-one math tutoring. There are interactive discussion rooms for each grade where students can view a current lesson, watch tutors draw on the whiteboard — and then type their own question.

Other math resources on the Homework Help website include videos of teachers leading students through the 20 most commonly asked math problems, interactive math tutorials and highlights of best sessions. All students have a virtual locker, where their work is saved in video format for viewing anytime.

Free Online Curriculum Resources Available To Support Students

The Ontario Educational Resource Bank (http://resources.elearningontario.ca/) is also available to support your child.  This databank houses thousands of math resources, including computer activities, lessons, along with tests and quizzes.  You may search for resources by grade, subject/course, strand, overall expectations, resource type and/or keywords.
