Oakwood’s Co-op program has long been recognized for the quality of its placements. Students are challenged by integrating the opportunities and responsibilities of this exciting experiential learning program.
This flexible program allows students to earn diploma credits while building impressive resumes and portfolios. Oakwood delivers Co-op in two ways, depending on which choice best suits the student’s needs.
Choice #1: Full year Co-op
This four credit package runs for the full academic year, from September until June. Students spend either the morning, or the afternoon in academic classes. The other half of the day is spent in experiential “hands-on” learning at their placements.
There is a wide range in placements offered, including:
Medicine
Veterinary Medicine
Law
Radio and Television Arts
Culinary Arts
Information Technology
Teaching
Accounting/Business
Graphic Arts
Journalism
Social Work
Banking
Information Technology
Physiotherapy
Theatre
Auto and Electrical Services / Apprenticeships.
Choice #2: Semester Co-op
This form of program delivery is also a four credit package. The placement is a full day Co-op experience running from September until the end of January. Students who are within four credits of graduating are eligible, often using this experience as a springboard to specialized Apprenticeship programs or second semester College entry.
