English At OCI
Welcome to the Oakwood English Department where we prepare students for success in post-secondary education and beyond. Through our core program, which includes courses for students at all levels of readiness, Oakwood students make connections to the past and heighten their awareness of contemporary society through a wide range of culturally diverse materials. We promote the value of reading and expose our students to all forms of literature including plays, poetry, fiction and non-fiction, graphic novels, autobiography, newsprint, media studies and creative writing. In addition to reading, students develop their skills in written and oral communication, through interactive, collaborative and independent work. We have a variety of courses, including an enriched program, Media Studies and Writers Craft courses. Our connection to the Oakwood Library encourages students to read independently from a wide array of works to extend their learning throughout their highschool experience.
