POLICY TO DEAL WITH VISITORS

OCI'S TIMETABLE

STUDENT VISITORS
1. Casual visits by students from other schools on P.A. days, etc. will not be allowed. Such students are to be told that the school’s policy does not permit casual visiting during class time. Students may meet their friends outside of the school at lunch or at 3:07.
2. Planned visits: In some circumstances, the parent of a student may wish to arrange for a visit to the school of a relative, visitor from out of country, etc. In these cases, host students are required to pick up a “Request to Visit” permission form (found on next page), from the office at least one day prior to the intended visit. The host student’s parent/guardian must complete and sign the form. There is a statement that the student will be allowed to remain in the school for the specified date and time, but admission to specific classes is the decision of the classroom teacher. On the day of the visit, the host student and visiting student will first report to the office where the letter of permission will be accepted and the student will be signed in. The visiting student will then be given a pass authorizing his/her presence in the school for the specified date and time. This pass (found on page 41) is to be shown to all teachers the student will visit.
3. Siblings: Students who bring young siblings into the building with the intent of looking after them for the day, must be referred to the office. School insurance prohibits the use of the school for day care. Parents will be contacted and the students will be told to take their sibling home.
4. Prospective Students: Students who visit the school for purpose of getting information in order that they might register, should be referred to the Student Office to make a registration appointment. Otherwise they should be told that they are expected to leave the premises immediately.
ADULT VISITORS
1. Adults who are in the building to meet with a teacher should first be directed to the Main Office. When making arrangements to meet with a parent, staff should instruct the parent to go to the office. The teacher will be notified of their appointment arrival and should meet with the parent to escort them to the conference area.
2. Adults who are in the building to present an educational/departmental program should be identifiable with a “Visitor” badge. These badges will be available in the office. It is the responsibility of the host teacher to ensure that the office is notified of the guest’s presence, and to pick up and return a visitor badge for the guest. Guests will be logged into a visitor’s book in the office upon arrival.
