Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a time to remember and thank the soldiers who fought for us. On Thursday, November 10, 2011, Beverly Glen held an assembly in the gym for Remembrance Day. Classes made magnificent wreaths and grade sixes read poems, shared their thoughts, and sang “In Flanders Fields”. The assembly was a success and inspired many students to remember to thank Veterans. In addition, many Beverly Glen students made post cards to show appreciation to the Veterans. We spent a lot of time and effort making these post cards, but it was worth all the work because of how much they sacrificed for us. Beverly Glen did an amazing job on the postcards and we were happy to send them to Veterans to read! We Remember – do you?

Cross-Country 2011!

This has been an outstanding Cross-Country season! We had 25 runners from grade 4 through 6 who were dedicated to morning recess practices and who had the opportunity to run at Earl Bales Park on October 5, 2011. The 2 km run was not easy, but our athletes ran their best and represented B.G. exceptionally well. Congratulations to the grade 5 girls’ team who came in 1st as a team ranking. The grade 5 girls who advanced to the Conference Finals were Crystal, Christie, Janvi, Priya, and Rosalinda on October 12, 2011. Crystal gained a spot to enter the City Finals on October 20, 2011. A huge THANK YOU goes out to Mrs. Sit, Ms. Motakef, Mrs.Amorim-Downie, Mr. Kaitila, Mme DiBiase and Ms.Tassopoulos who took the time out of their busy schedule to accompany us to the first meet. The experience would not have been possible without their support. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! Thank you to the “rabbits” who helped the grade 5 girls prepare for their second competition and who helped Crystal prepare for the finals. Thank you to all of our cross-country participants this year: Alex, Crystal, Priya, Janvi, Rosalinda, Sarah, Destiny, Eric, Christie, Trevor, Jaleel, Daniel, David, Andrew, Farnaz, Cindy, Emily, Liah, Vivian, Bobby, Amir, Emmanuel, Nicholas, Tobias and Omar! It was a pleasure working with the athletes! Hope to see you next season!!!

BOY’S SLOW PITCH TEAM

Mr. Vrantsis and Mr. Marshall want to congratulate our Boys’ Slo-Pitch Team on their tremendous effort this season. The boys came to every practice prepared to work hard and support each other with the right attitude each and every moment. This translated into a great performance at the Tournament, as the boys won two out of three round robin games before coming up just short of making it to the Finals.
All of Beverly Glen can be proud of how much the boys learned throughout the season and the way they conducted themselves both on and off the field.
A big thank you goes out to all the BG staff and community members who supported the team throughout the season.
Well done Beverly Glen!

2011 – 2012 Beverly Glen Student Council

Beverly Glen is happy to announce this year’s fabulous Student Council:

Destiny, Rosalinda, Janvi, Catherine, Jenny, Mya, Jiayi, Anna, Kariza, Angel, Amir, Lindchris, Sarah, Allen, Pat, David, Kabilan, Sunny, Blake, Azad, Dineth, Isabel, Kevin, Aaren, and Midilan.

The Student Council are a group of students from grades 4 to 6 who are responsible for promoting and maintaining Beverly Glen Spirit. Through Spirit Days and Festive Holidays, the Council is responsible for organizing events to encourage and support Beverly Glen Spirit.

The Beverly Glen Student Council has begun their showering of spirit by educating all of the students about the Toronto District School Board Character Traits. During our Sharing Assembly on Friday, October 21, 2011, the Council created and performed a skit to educate the rest of the school on the Character Traits. The council worked extremely hard at writing an original script, memorizing their lines and performing. Way to go Council!
Stay tuned for the next Spirit Day scheduled for November.

Primary Choir 2011-2012

Children expressing an interest in participating in the Primary Choir had a chance to sign up the last 2 weeks. So far, we are counting over 70 voices. The choir is practicing weekly on Tuesday. Note that children who usually go home for lunch need to eat at school that day. The Primary Choir will participate in the Winter and Spring concerts. We look forward every week to practice with all the members.

TERRY FOX

As in the years past, the 2011 Terry Fox Run was a great success at BG. The toonie drive for the run started on September 27. Although it followed on the heels of the drive for East African Relief, the community donated money generously. We made a total of $179.00.

The run took place on Thursday, September 29th. It began with a warm up by Mr. Vrantsis. Mme Bedard, Mme Tatlot and Mme Henry provided the appropriate music to keep all of us on the go! The students enjoyed being outdoors on the crisp Fall day. Thank you to all of our school community for your devotion to this worthy cause.

Relief for East Africa

Thank you to the staff, students, and BG community for making our toonie drive on September 20th a great success. With your help, we were able to raise $352.22 for drought relief in East Africa. Our students were very proud to drop off the donation at our annual “Free the Children” conference. “Free the Children” works very closely with East African communities and has created many sustainable programs for its people. Thank you BG for your compassion!
