School Council Minutes 2011 - 2012

Your council membership is set. I am excited to report that the staffroom has been full of both returning and new parent council members. We have some exciting ideas for this year and are waiting for some input from the Beverly Glen staff. Every parent/guardian of a BG student is welcome to meetings and we welcome all ideas, concerns and questions. We are excited to see the response to our fall fundraiser. We can then assess what “extra” programs- library, athletics or cultural events- we can support this year.

So….Our fall fundraiser with Norcard is completed. The raised funds will go to making BG an even better school for our children. Without these funds we can not support the library, athletics and cultural “extras” that are very important in making BG the best it can be for our children. Weren’t the packages amazing, as there were many items to choose from for all your birthdays, special occasions and holiday present needs? It was a great opportunity to think about what special occasions are in the next couple of months and to pre buy for these occasions. It is a super way to decrease everyone’s stress when you already have a gift in the cupboard!! Personally I will be giving some muffin mixes as holiday gifts this year. Do not forget your out of town friends and family as they can order online and indicate Beverly Glen in the order so that BG receives credit for the purchase. All online orders include a delivery fee and the items are delivered directly to the address on the online order. So you will not have to mail items to out of town family and friends. Orders were due back to the school on October 28; however, we are still accepting late orders until November 1. Delivery of the items will arrive by late November or early in December. The more your children sell the more prizes they win!

Pizza lunches are back. Our monthly pizza days are set for the whole school year. This is parent council’s most successful fundraiser so make sure your children return their forms on time. As we pre-order the pizza a couple days in advance, no late orders will be accepted. November’s pizza lunch is November 24.

Parking lot concerns. The new configuration of our parking lot appears to have improved the flow of cars. Consider backing into the spots in the front of the lot as it makes it easier to exit the lot. However, please remember to drive slowly, always park and walk your children from the school grounds to your car, and always be on the alert for our children! Please also remember that children are not allowed to walk unattended through the parking lot as this is a safety issue.

Although the poor paving surface and drainage on our parking lot remains a concern, the Board has reassured us that this issue will be rectified. Stay tuned for a further update soon.

The next parent council meeting is November 24th, 7pm in the staffroom.
