Gifted
Program Differentiation
In
the Gifted Program, courses focus on the essential concepts of the discipline,
explore related concepts, incorporate practical applications as
appropriate, and develop students' knowledge and skills by emphasizing theoretical and abstract applications of the concepts.

Course
Delivery in Gifted Programs is differentiated:

By breadth - the content focuses on broad based themes;

By depth - the topics and/or skills may be more fully developed;
-
By pace - there may be quicker
introduction, with less repetition of content for mastery; and,
-
By kind - strategies for teaching and learning would include practices based on such
educational theory as 4Mat or Multiple Intelligences
Special Emphasis in the Gifted Courses:
In the gifted program, special emphasis is placed on the following curriculum
components:

Ensuring students acquire the basic skills necessary for productive learning;
Presenting and studying subject matter in the form of broad based issues, problems
and themes;

Integrating a variety of topics within areas of study;

Developing and using decision-making skills and methods;
-
Providing open-ended tasks and
assignments; and,
-
Encouraging students to study challenging, dynamic ideas and information.
Learning
Needs of the Gifted Student:
The Gifted Program addresses the learning needs of gifted students with opportunities to master basic skills early:

Through exposure to challenging, dynamic information and complex concepts;

Through peer interaction with students who are similarly identified and motivated;

With exposure to many ideas;

Through
the opportunity to pursue individual interests;
and

With exposure to people of varying talents and abilities
