Donview Performs well at Math Olympics

Congratulations to Tiberiu, Olivia, Cassidy and Roger, who represented Donview at the Scarborough Math Olympics Thursday April 5th. The event was hosted at Agincourt CI, and featured some of the best math students from the TDSB.

While all Donview team members performed extremely well, Cassidy's outstanding effort earned her a spot on the Scarborough Team that will go on to compete at the Provincial Math Olympics later on in the year. Way to go Cassidy!

Special thanks also goes to Ms. Morgan for coaching our students and helping facilitate this event

White Ribbon Assembly

The École Polytechnique Massacre, also known as the Montreal Massacre, was a gender-based hate crime commited on December 6, 1989 at the École Polytechnique in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. An enraged gunman who claimed to be "fighting feminism" killed 28 people, mostly women before using the gun to kill himself.

On December the 6th students and staff alike will wear a ribbon to remember the twenty-second commemoration of the event. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Wearing a white ribbon is a way of saying, “Our future will have no more violence against women.”

There is a memorial to the victims on the exterior wall of École Polytechnique, Canada Montreal, Quebec, Canada. To remember the women who died, on that dark but eye-opening day of December 6, 1989.

Remembrance Day 2011

At the Remembrance Day assembly it was an honour and a pleasure to hear the grade 8 music band play wonderful music. They worked REALLY hard! Special thanks to Mr. Karpenko for getting them ready.

During the ceremony we heard from wonderful speakers who read poems and explained why we take time out for this day. We had two students who were our Masters of Ceremonies and our Tech Team students showed a video. There were also beautiful decorations and posters. THANK YOU.

Last but not least all Donview Middle School students and teachers took 2 minutes and stood quietly and reflected on what it means to live free in Canada. We'd like to thank all students and teachers who participated in the day of remembrance and to all others who helped to create a wonderful assembly.

School Improvements Reminders for Drivers

School Improvements

Donview is undergoing regular updating of our computer systems. We have recently added additional RAM to our computers to improve their speed, and we also had upgrades done in our hub room. The board is also looking to install wireless internet throughout the school very soon.

We are happy to report that our windows have been replaced. Our building is now more energy efficient, which is in keeping with our "Eco Schools" initiatives. The previous windows were original to the building, nearly FIFTY years old!

Our library has had some minor renovations to accomodate the installation of a new computer lab. This means that students and their computers will no longer be at risk of overheating since they are now in a cool, air conditioned, environment.

As a result of fundraising, and due to an influx of some Ministry and Board funding, we have recently:
- bought many new books for the library
- purchased new sports equipment
- purchased new VCR/DVD players
- repainted the front hall showcase
- bought two new drill presses and two new band saws for DT
- purchased new volleyball uniforms

Reminders for Drivers

Please remember that our parking lot is for staff and Board delivery vehicles. Although there is a turn around area, students can easily walk a few metres even on cold days and need not be driven right up to the parking lot door, which is actually off limits to students.

We also ask that you show respect for our neigbours on Evermede by not making U-turns and by not using driveways to turn around. Please just stop, drop off or pick up your child, and continue on in the same direction.
