Downsview, for the week of October 11th, your Student of the Week is Stephen H.
Stephen is in the eleventh grade here at Downsview.
All Downsview students know Stephen. If you’re not sure who he is, think back to our recent Welcome Assembly. Stephen was the Master of Ceremonies, the man at the microphone, the person in charge of proceedings. He handled this position with equal measures of ease and enthusiasm. These kinds of acts of leadership and more have earned him this title, this week.
Stephen’s nomination comes from Ms Kouinis, who is enjoying her third year as his French teacher. Here are her words: “I have observed Stephen’s growth since grade nine French class and seen him develop outstanding skills in French throughout his three years, through commitment and hard work. His initiative, his positive attitude and his energy in French class are a great influence on his peers. Stephen is extensively involved in school programs. His dedication to Downsview’s spirit shows; he is a member of Student Council, MC at the Welcome Assembly and a regular morning announcer. Stephen is an absolute pleasure to have in class.”
And Stephen, Ms de Jersey backs up the comments about your positive demeanour. You are usually the first person she sees as she comes in the building, en route to the Breakfast Club. It is so good to see students arriving early and ready to learn and it is also a pleasure to see your smiling face as the day begins. To reinforce Ms Kouinis’ comments about your academic strength, Stephen, the evidence is clear. You made the honour roll, and achieved the highest mark in one of your classes last semester.
One of the best things about teaching in one location for a while, is that we as staff members get to see you students grow and change. Stephen, you were a fine student from the start and this has not changed. Now, you are leaping into a new role as leader and model citizen of DSS. This is exciting to witness and we are fortunate to have you as a Downsview student. Congratulations once again go out to you, Stephen, for your win as Student of the Week.
