Downsview, your final Student of the Week for the first semester is Bryan A.
Bryan is in the twelfth grade at Downsview.
Most Downsview students know Bryan as an exuberantly fun guy, and this is accurate, yet there is much more to Bryan, and people are noticing. ArtsFest happened just recently, and many talented Downsview students took the stage. Standing up in front of an audience ranks high on many lists of things we fear, just after heights and spiders. Anytime we speak or perform for others, we take a risk. While risks are scary, taking them also helps us grow. When Bryan took the stage at ArtsFest as a solo performer, he took a risk. Bryan's nomination comes first from Mr Snodgrass, who has this to say: "Bryan has shown extraordinary progress in my guitar class this semester. Most recently, he performed a guitar version of the theme from Super Mario Brothers. This achievement represents a lot for Bryan - his confidence, courage and determination to overcome his nerves and take on the challenge of a solo performance. He demonstrates regular commitment to practicing hard, learning challenging pieces, and improving his musical abilities." Mr Genge took special notice of Bryan's performance, too, and made specific mention of Bryan's strength and courage as a performer in the next morning's announcements.
Mr Wallace has this to add: "It is amazing to note how far Brian has come in the past few years. Brian knew my name before I had the chance to be his teacher, and he was always happy to say hello in the hall. Now, as his teacher, I look forward to Brian's happily bent sense of humour that rarely fails to get people in class laughing. I also admire his approach to his school work: Brian gets the job done. Brian is growing into an independent young man who is increasingly ready to face life's challenges."
Writer TS Eliot once said: "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far it is possible to go." And Helen Keller said: "Life is either a daring adventure, or it is nothing." Bryan you are living life, and growing as you take chances. Your friends and teachers thank you for reminding us of the importance of engaging in your life, and letting others engage, too. Congratulations once again, Bryan, on your win as Student of the Week.
