Downsview Secondary School

Student of the Week

Week of April 16, 2012

Katherine C.

Downsview, for the week of April 16th, your Student of the Week is Katherine C.
Katherine is in the ninth grade at Downsview.

Katherine’s nomination comes on the heels of a CD/DVD Drive that was a fundraiser for the Toronto Foundation for Student Success. The TFSS helps us out in many ways, including supporting our Breakfast Club, and it is important that we remember to give back to them. Katherine definitely remembered, bringing in a big bag of CDs – more than any other student.

Here is what her first nominator, Ms Bami, had to say: “Katherine has very good communication skills and seeks out opportunities for interaction with staff, administrators, and especially our principal, Ms Palermo. With guidance, she can do simple jobs, and she loves to participate in class activities. Katherine is growing in her ability to self-regulate and apply social skills in an appropriate manner. With continued support, all of us in room 127 are positive that Katherine will continue to flourish at Downsview.”

And, further praise comes from Ms Shahmoradi: “Katherine is a beautiful, sweet and happy student who joined our DD program last September. She is sociable and empathetic and loves her classmates enough to want to help them as best as she can. She is very interested in meeting new people and making new friends. She finds lots of excitement in exchanging high fives with buddies of all ages. Sometimes Katherine has to be reminded to use her words carefully, as she may use words that upset people rather than please them, but make no mistake, Katherine wants others to be happy. Katherine is motivated to learn and welcomes new challenges. She took on the challenge of bringing in CDs for the recent drive and did really well. We’re proud of you, Katherine!”

If you’re in the area of room 127, poke your head in and congratulate Katherine on her success and her continuing growth as a high school student. Way to go, Katherine! We’re all behind you in your win as Student of the Week.
