Downsview, for the week of April 23, your Student of the Week is Chantal C.
Chantal is in the eleventh grade at Downsview.
Chantal’s much-deserved win started with a nomination from Ms Prinn: “Chantal is an amazing student. She quickly learns new computer programs, and has an excellent ability to apply her skills to creative graphic designs and new inventions in Comm Tech and Tech Design. She is also extremely involved in Downsview’s extra-curricular groups such as wegreen and Dare 2 Inspire. During Earth Hour, Chantal went to every single room in the school to see who had turned their lights and phones off. She added up the numbers, and did a complete audit of our building. She wrote the announcements herself and showed amazing commitment about these extremely important environmental issues. Her passion is inspiring. It is her passion that will be her great success, and allow her to make our world a better. Keep up the fight Chantal, and keep working to make our world a cleaner, greener place.”
And from Ms de Jersey: “Chantal came to Downsview last year, and made a choice. Her choice was to make friends with positive, involved students, and to do the same herself. Make no mistake, though – Chantal did not follow her new friends, rather she joined them, and has become a leader in school groups that make a difference. In Dare 2 Inspire, her enthusiasm and positive energy are contagious. Chantal is vying for top fundraiser for Dare 2 Inspire’s upcoming walk, and we wish her luck. Chantal – you’re fun, smart and hard-working. It’s fabulous having you on the team!”
And finally, Mr Bovey, Chantal’s badminton coach adds: “Chantal was an excellent first-year addition to the team and her ability to turn a tame game into the x-games was awesome! She is also a strong member of the leadership group, following her Muskoka Woods experience. She gives valuable ideas and input all the time!”
When she was presented with her award, Chantal said: “these things don’t happen to me!” Well, the times are changing, Chantal, and it is you who has made this turnaround happen. Don’t be surprised when there are further accolades for your good work. Congratulations on your deeply deserved win as Student of the Week.
