Downsview, for the week of April 30th, your Student of the Week is Anna O.
Anna is in the ninth grade at Downsview.
Many students believe that grade nine students are not eligible for the Student of the Week award. This is certainly not true, but the misconception is understandable as many winners have some history of service to our school or community. Newer students simply haven’t had the time to establish their skills and talents.
Anna, however, is an exception. She has made herself a major part of several school organizations in a short time. Anna’s nomination comes from Ms de Jersey, Ms Craig, Ms Sturge and Ms Khan-Crawford, who have observed her dedication and energy. Here are their words: “Many of us have trouble rolling out of bed in the morning, let alone gearing ourselves toward helping others. Anna has volunteered for the Breakfast Club nearly every day since we opened our doors in September. Usually at the door before we open, Anna is ready. Anyone who uses the Breakfast Club has benefitted from her time and attention to detail. She brings her fun, dancing spirit into the room and we’re thrilled to have her!”
And, from Mr Chica: “Anna is always available to help. Her reliability is one of her best assets. We know whenever she is asked to do something, it will get done. It is very impressive to see her so involved and balancing her academic life with her extra curricular. She is a huge part of Downsview’s Student Council.”
Ms Le rounds out the nomination with this praise: "Anna is always full of energy; she is enthusiastic, kind-hearted and puts 100% of herself into everything that she does. As a grade 9 representative on Student Council, Anna has comes up with the best ideas on how to carry out school -wide events such as twonie jams, spirit week and more. She comes to meetings each week with optimism, creativity and of course, her signature smile and laugh. Congratulations from our Student Council, Ms. Le and Mr. Chica for this award. It's about time! You are definitely a role model in this school and we are proud to have you represent our grade 9's!"
Anna, the word is out: your involvement at DSS combined with your excellent attitude have earned you the title of Student of the Week.
