Firgrove Public School shares the Mission Statement of the Toronto District School Board :

Statement of Direction for Educational Programs

We believe that learners in a changing world must be :

  • competent communicators
  • confident problemsolvers
  • appreciative of the arts
  • self-motivated, life-long learners
  • informed decision makers
  • capable users of technology
  • protective of the environment
  • responsible, caring citizens in a global community

The Board staff of Firgrove P.S. believes that the family, the community and the school are partners in the education of all learners.


Ethno-Cultural Policy

The Toronto District School Board condemns and refuses to tolerate any expression of racial or ethnic bias in any form by its students, staff or trustees. The Toronto district School Board commits itself to continue to :

  1. develop, promote and support positive race and ethnic relations for staff, students and the community.
  2. take steps to communicate to this principle to staff, students and the community.
  3. take appropriate action when this principle is challenged or undermined in any way.

Safe School Environment

  • Violence of any sort will not be tolerated and will be given appropriate consequences.
  • No one will verbally or physically intimidate a student or adult.
  • Staff and students must adhere to the Ethno-Cultural and Sexual Harassment policies of the Board.
  • Inappropriate language (i.e., swearing and insults) is banned.
  • Students are expected to take reasonable care of school property, including books and furniture.
    Vandalism will not be tolerated.
  • The presence of intruders or any activity, which places the safety of its learners, visitors or staff at risk, will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely.

Assisting Your Children

The following suggestions are made to encourage you to help your children with their schoolwork.

  1. Let us know if something is bothering your child.
  2. Encourage your child to seek out assistance from any teacher if they encounter difficulties.
  3. Insist on punctuality and regular attendance.
  4. Encourage the formation of good study habits-spend a few minutes each day discussing your child’s interests.
  5. Attend school activities, information sessions and parent council meetings.
  6. Encourage the development of a co-operative spirit.
*All Firgrove students considering inclusion in any club, team or extra-curricular activity shall:
  1. Make a consistent effort and maintain a positive attitude
  2. Take responsibility for all word and actions
  3. Attend regularly
  4. Be courteous and respectful of all others and their actions
  5. Be prepared for all classes
  6. Consistently complete all assignments
  7. Be punctual
