PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

September 2011

Welcome back to all our Garden students and families to the 2011-2012 school year! I hope everyone has been able to enjoy some summer time with your families. I look forward to reconnecting with you and hearing about your summer!

Welcome back to Mrs. Bell, our Grade 1 teacher this year who is returning from leave. Mrs. Morris will continue to support our ESL students on Wednesday & Friday mornings. It’s shaping up to be a year filled with events and activities to fulfill and enrich the learning needs of all our students. We also welcome our new librarian Mrs. Cox de los Santos, our HSP teacher Ms. Orner as well as our Grade 3/4 teacher Ms. Cochrane.

Our itinerant strings program at Garden has begun and we welcome our new itinerant strings teacher Mr. Toman. We celebrate our students who demonstrate interest in the program, a positive attitude and a commitment to practise.

Curriculum Night provided an opportunity to visit your child’s classroom and learn more about your child’s school day and the program Garden Avenue P.S. provides. As well, the bake & pizza sales were a huge success!

We thank our Garden community which fundraised to support drought relief in East Africa primarily in Somalia and Kenya. We also thank you for your most generous donations to the Terry Fox Foundation.

The QSP magazine fundraiser has returned this fall. Please recycle all those publisher notices you’ve been receiving and wait to renew your subscriptions through our school. If you can’t wait until then or you wish to order early gift subscriptions, you can support your child’s education at any time of year by ordering on-line at www.qsp.ca

With your continued support we look forward to an engaging school year for your children!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Peterson
Principal
