School Philosophy
Our philosophy is based on the fundamental principle of fostering a positive feeling of self-worth in all people. It emphasizes honesty, tolerance, compassion and respect for other regardless of race, sex, religion or ethnic background. Since both the home and the school share equally in the development of students, our mutual aim is to assist each child in developing and exhibiting self-discipline, appropriate behaviour and the skills that will enable him/her to be proud of his/her own achievements and be an asset to society.
At Glamorgan, we provide a challenging, child-centered environment which emphasizes on-going communication with the home, basic skills and positive values. We desire our children to become contributing members of society who exhibit self-control and have the skills to seek out and interpret information from which they can make responsible decisions.

School Opening
Although the school had been functioning since September of 1972, Glamorgan Junior Public School was was officially opened on February 28, 1974. There were so many school openings in Scarborough at this time that Glamorgan's opening was delayed for two years. The school was officially opened by Scarborough Ward 5 Trustee David Owen. Guests at the opening ceremony included; School Board Chairman Gerry Phillips, Ontario Education Minister Tom Wells, and Scarborough East MP Reg Stackhouse. The guest speaker was David Glee, a professor at the Ontario College of Education. Glee, a Welshman, delivered an address on his native country. The school had about 190 children in 1974. For opening day celebrations the children dressed in Welsh costumes, planted daffodils and received lessons on Wales.
The name Glamorgan comes from a county in Wales. It is not known who decided on the school name, but in 1952 Glamorgan Avenue was already planned for a street name on the area developer's map. Upon opening Glamorgan was "twinned" with a Glamorgan County school called Tondu Junior Mixed School.

Neighbourhood History
The land that Glamorgan Junior Public School is built on, and all of the area around Kennedy Road and Ellesmere Avenue, was at one time, called Ellesmere. In 1828, a family from England, named Loveless, moved to Ellesmere and purchased farmland. The Loveless farm went from today's Highway 401, along Kennedy Road to Ellesmere and as far west as Dundalk Avenue. This land was covered with pine and maple trees that were over one metre in diameter. There was also a creek that ran across the north and east corner of the property.
In 1839 the Loveless family built their two story fieldstone house on their farm land. Some of the most productive farms in all of Upper Canada were found around Ellesmere. The Loveless family were notable dairy farmers and at different agricultural fairs, won many prizes for their cattle. They often took prizes in standing field crop competitions. Oats were their speciality and farmers came from around the area to purchase oats from the Loveless farm. The Loveless brothers also operated the Ellesmere Dairy from 1932 until 1948.
