Humewood Community School is located north of St. Clair Avenue and west of Christie Street at 15 Cherrywood Avenue. The original school building was erected in 1914, but it was replaced in 1972. Through our school theme, 'Building our Community', we continue to develop partnerships with home and the community.
The school serves approximately 480 children who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Many speak languages other than English or French.
- Humewood Community School houses a Day Care and a Before/After Care Program (opening at 7:30 am). The school is permitted for activities that serve both the adults and children in the community.
- Within the main library is a networked computer lab that is available for students and teachers.
This year we were pleased to welcome 5 Full Day Kindergarten classes (3 English and 2 French Immersion), as well as our two Grade 1 French Immersion Classes and our very first Grade 8 class! Wow, are we growing!
Our entire school was newly renovated in the summer of 2011, providing our school with skylights, wireless internet access, new Science and Art rooms, a wood working shop, mounted SMARTBoards in various classrooms, and student laptop use and accessibility. This year we have 3 brand new mobile laptop carts that travel from classroom to classroom allowing our students the opportunity to further enhance and develop their writing and media literacy skills.
