Jarvis Collegiate - How to Search Our Site
Choose one or two words that you believe will be on the page you want to see.
The best search term is usually the name of a thing—a noun. Sometimes it is the name of an action—a verb. Rarely is it any other sort of word—adverb, adjective, pronoun.
For example, imagine you want to see if we have information on the annual Jarvis basketball tournament. Simply do a search using the word basketball, since that will give you every page on our site with the word 'basketball' on it.
If you get too many hits, the page showing your search results gives you the option to "refine" your search. That means you can use another word, in this case tournament, to search only the pages you've already found.
Or you could have used both terms, basketball and tournament in your original search. These two words would probably get you the page you wanted.
In the example above, you might not have found your information if you had used too many words. If you had searched with all three words annual basketball tournament and the target page did not include the word 'annual,' you might not have found it.
Also, do not use connecting words, such as the, and, of, on, (articles, prepositions, conjunctions), etc., since the search engine just ignores them.
