A Brief School History

John G. Althouse Middle School opened its doors on November 4, 1957 to 380 pupils. It was named after the late Dr. John G. Althouse, one of Canada's most distinguished educators.

Dr. John G. Althouse was the Chief Director of Education for the Province of Ontario from 1944 to 1956. Dr. Althouse made great contributions to education. His leadership was acknowledged and recognized throughout Canada. Today, John G. Althouse Middle School is a stimulating, caring and creative learning community where students, staff and parents are all committed to strive for excellence.

Together, through innovative teaching and supportive partnerships, we ensure opportunities for each student to be personally motivated and academically enriched. We work hard to develop positive interrelationships, a sense of belonging, a sense of self, and the skills necessary to learn confidently.
