Jim Fencott Award

2006

Each year the Scarborough Association for Mathematics Education(S.A.M.E.) sponsors a financial award of $100.00 to two graduating Scarborough students who have made remarkable progress in mathematics at the student’s ability level. The Jim Fencott Mathematics Award is open to students that exhibit the qualities outlined below. One award will be appointed to a student from one of the collegiates, high schools, or business and technical institutes. A second award will be given to a student graduating from grade eight. The award may be presented at your in-school Mathematics Awards or Commencement Ceremonies.

Principals are invited to nominate one candidate from their school for consideration.

A committee, made up of the executive members of S.A.M.E., will consider the students with respect to the following criteria:

  1. The student should be a responsible school citizen.
  2. The student should exhibit a positive attitude towards mathematics specifically, and learning in general
  3. The student should have made some positive contribution to the school and community.
  4. The student must be reasonably successful in mathematics and have shown improvement in mathematical skills over her/his school career.
If you require additional information, please contact someone on the executive commitee.
