For a remarkable fourth year in a row, the TDSB’s Seneca Hill Public School has won in the Overall Academic Achievement category at the Garfield Weston Awards for Excellence in Education. “Our students and staff work very hard every year to be the very best we can be, so it’s an honour to be recognized, especially when there are so many deserving schools at the TDSB and across the province,” said Seneca Hill Principal Morag Killackey. The recognition also brought a monetary prize of $3000.
Two other TDSB schools, Kennedy Public School and Denlow Public School, were runner ups in the Overall Academic Achievement category and took away prizes of $1000 each. Cornell Public School was the top choice in the category Determination in Academic Achievement, and was awarded a $1000 prize.
More than 500 educators from across the province gathered in Toronto on April 7 to watch the awards ceremony. Eighty schools across the province, including 23 TDSB schools, were recognized as "schools of distinction" in three different categories. The awards are based on an analysis of the Ministry of Education’s student results data for 2,786 English and French, public and separate elementary schools from across Ontario.
