The Gamelan Orchestra

It’s back! It’s back! Another wonderful set of instruments have arrived at Seneca Hill!  This time they are not from Africa, but instead come from Indonesia!  They produce a type of music called Gamelan.  Some of the instruments include the Kendag, a drum, the Gong, the Kempul, a small version of the Gong, as well as the Saron, Saron Demur and Saron Pekite, which are basically mini xylophones.  These instruments require a tap or stroke with a small stick wrapped with wool to produce their sounds. The beat of these instruments is in counts of eight. The instruments are here for students to play, learn and enjoy until January 2009!
