Parade involves the entire school and
community. The students always have fantastic costumes that dazzle the community who watch them tour the block! Everyone involved looks forward to the parade each year!
Annual
Terry Fox Run/Walk
The staff and students at Shirley Street P.S are proud to participate in the Annual Terry Fox Run/Walk. This is an exciting charity event that raises money for cancer research.
Book
Fair
The Book Fair is a time when Shirley St. celebrates the joy of reading. There are hundreds of
reading materials including - comics, picture books, novels, and journals. There is usually a student draw for a chance to win $50.00 in free books. Clifford the Big Red Dog
and Franklin the Turtle have visited the Shirley St. Book
Fair.
Concerts
Every year Shirley Street P.S hosts various concerts that showcase the students' musical and dramatic talents. Parents and family members enthusiatically come to enjoy and celebrate the students' hardwork and creativity.
Play Day
Play Day occurs at the end of the school year to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of the staff and students. It is always a huge success and includes a variety of games and activities for everyone to enjoy. Some highlights of the event include; water games, face painting, and treats.
S.M.A.R.T. Student
Award Assemblies
Every month Shirley St. P.S.
holds an assembly to present students with the S.M.A.R.T. student award. This award acknowledges students who:

Lunar New Year
Celebration
Every year the school hosts a delicious Chinese buffet lunch to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Students learn about Chinese culture and usually receive red lucky money bags. You can discover more about the Chinese Calendar at this Chinese New Year site.
Carnaval
In February, Shirley Street P.S. celebrates Carnaval with a Brazilian lunch buffet. For more information about the Carnaval celebrations in Brazil, check out this Carnaval site.
Visiting Artists
Every year Shirley Street P.S. hosts visiting artisits that work with the students over several days to create magnificent works of art. These beautiful creations are usually exhibited in the Shirley Street Library for everyone to enjoy. Some of the artwork travels throughout the city to be viewed and honoured.
Music
Shirley Street P.S. staff and students are proud of their musical accomplishments. Through an enriched program including Vocal Music Programs, Stories into Song (made possible by grants from the Ontario Arts Council), and an O.R.F.F. program dedicated to the primary grades, the school embraces musical literacy.
Literacy Events
Shirley Street P.S. strongly encourages the literary development of our students. Every year we host various events that support language development and foster a love for reading. On Character Day, students dress like their favorite character from a book. On Snuggle Up and Read nights, parents and guardians are encouraged to come and read with their children.
Math Fair
The Math Fair is a community event that encourages students to solve mathematical problems and link their understanding to real world situations. This event is a modern twist on the traditional science fair and uses engaging literature to inspire the problem solving process.
