Academic Life at Sir Adam Beck École Sir Adam Beck Junior School is located in the Alderwood community just south of the Gardiner Expressway and west of Browns’ Line. Named in honour of the founder of Ontario Hydro, the school first opened in 1921. The original façade still stands by the gardens of the new school built on the same property in 1999. The school is a partner in the Alderwood Centre along with the Toronto Public Library, Toronto Parks and Recreation and the Alderwood Action Afterschool Daycare. School facilities are used by the daycare’s before and after school program as well as by many community groups. École Sir Adam Beck Junior School is a dual track school offering both Early French Immersion and regular English programs in an exciting learning environment for young learners from junior kindergarten (French senior kindergarten) to grade five. The school’s tradition of academic strength is reflected in the school crest which features an open book of knowledge and the pen of creative communication. The beautiful naturalized garden by the west playground offers a natural outdoor classroom for environmental studies. Our mission is to promote in our community of learners self- confidence, academic proficiency and social responsibility within a supportive environment. We work closely with parents to achieve these goals. Safety, responsibility, respect and peaceful conflict resolution are expectations of students at École Sir Adam Beck Junior School.
