History of Africa and Peoples of African Descent, Grade 11, Open.This course investigates the history of African peoples from ancient times to the present and traces their influence throughout the Diaspora with a special focus on Canada, the Caribbean, and the United States. Students will analyze diverse societies and cultures with particular regard to the social, economic, political forces and structures that form the foundation of these communities.They will examine the influence of selected individuals and groups in Africa and the Diaspora and the innovations, inventions, and ideas that have emerged in these societies and profoundly influenced world history.Students will gain knowledge and understanding about these peoples, develop historical inquiry and research skills, apply these skills and understandings in their analysis of past and present developments and improve their communication skills in written, oral, and visual formats.Prerequisite: Canadian History in the Twentieth Century, Grade 10, Academic or Applied
