SNC1D1 Science, Grade 9, Academic.Physics-Lab This course enables students to understand basic concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics; to develop practical skills in scientific investigation; and to apply their knowledge of science to everyday situations. Students will design and conduct investigations into practical problems and issues related to cell division and reproduction, the structure and properties of elements and compounds, astronomy and space exploration, and static and current electricity.Prerequisite: None

SNC1L1 Science, Grade 9, Locally Developed. Students explore a range of topics including science in daily life, properties of common materials, life sustaining processes in simple and complex organisms, and electrical circuits.Prerequisite: None

SNC1P1 Science, Grade 9, Applied. This course enables students to understand basic concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics; to develop practical skills in scientific investigation; and to apply their knowledge of science to everyday situations. SNC2D1 Grade 10 Academic Science. Topics discussed include Ecology, Chemistry, Motion and Weather. Students should possess good reading skills as well as the ability to summarize information and communicate ideas effectively. Grade 9 Academic Math is highly recommended. Students taking this course will have a deeper understanding of the theoretical aspects of the topics.Prerequisite: SNC1D1

SNC2L1

SNC2L1 Science, Grade 10, Locally Developed Students explore a range of topics including science in the media, interactions of common materials, interdependence of organisms in communities, and using electrical energy.Prerequisite: None

SNC2P1

SNC2P1 Grade 10 Applied Science. Topics discussed include Ecology, Chemistry, Motion and Weather. Students should possess good reading skills as well as the ability to summarize information and communicate ideas effectively. Students taking this course will develop further their practical skills in scientific investigations.Prerequisite: SNC1P1

SBI3C1

SBI3C1 –Biology grade 11 College. Geared for students intending to attend College in the biological sciences. Course does not have as heavy a theoretical content as the University stream. There is no grade 12 college biology course.Prerequisite: SNC2P1

SBI3U1

SBI3U1 –Biology grade 11 University. Geared for students intending to attend University in the biological sciences, by preparing them for grade 12 University biology. Course has a heavy theoretical content. Students who do not want an introductory biology course with a heavy theoretical content should choose SBI 3C.Prerequisite: SNC2D1

SCH3U1

SCH3U1 –Chemistry grade 11 University. Geared for students intending to attend University in the physical or biological sciences, by preparing them for grade 12 University chemistry. Course has a heavy theoretical content. This course is highly recommended before attempting SBI4U. Students who do not want an introductory chemistry course with a heavy theoretical content should choose SCH4C.Prerequisite: SNC2D1

SNC3M1

SNC3M1 –Science grade 11 –University/College. Geared for students who do not intend to pursue a science related program in college or University but are interested in science and its applications. Course covers: Chemicals and chemical safety (Chemistry), Body input and nutrition (Biology), Waste management (Environmental science), Space science (Physics) and Technologies in every day life. Course does not have a heavy mathematical content but due to the wide range of topics covered, students should have an interest in all sciences and be able to communicate ideas effectively.Prerequisite: SNC2D1 or SNC2P1

SPH3U1

SPH3U1 –Physics grade 11 University.Bridges made in SPH3U1 Geared for students intending to attend University in the physical sciences, mathematics or engineering by preparing them for grade 12 University physics. Course has a heavy mathematical and theoretical content. Students who do not want an introductory physics course with a heavy mathematical content should choose SPH4C.Prerequisite: SNC2D1

SBI4U1

SBI4U1 –Biology grade 12 University. Geared for students intending to attend University in the biological sciences. Course has a heavy theoretical content. Students should elect to do SCH3U before attempting this course, as it will require that students have a chemistry background. Marks above 70% in SBI3U and SCH3U are highly recommended.Prerequisite: SBI3U1

SCH4C1

SCH4C1 –Chemistry grade 12 College. Geared to students who wish to develop a basic understanding of concepts of chemistry. Concepts covered will include chemical reactions, environmental chemistry, organic chemistry and electrochemistry. Students should possess good reading skills as well as the ability to summarize information and communicate ideas effectively. Prerequisite: SNC2P1

SCH4U1

SCH4U1 --Chemistry grade 12 University. Geared for students intending to attend University in the physical or biological sciences. Marks above 70% in SCH3U are highly recommended.Prerequisite: SCH3U1

SPH4C1

SPH4C1 –Physics grade 12 College *Geared to students who wish to develop a basic understanding of concepts of physics. Concepts relate to mechanical, electrical, fluid and communication systems. Students should possess good reading skills as well as the ability to summarize information and communicate ideas effectively.Prerequisite: SNC2P1

SPH4U1

SPH4U –Physics grade 12 University *Geared for students intending to attend University in the physical sciences, mathematics or engineering. Course has a very heavy mathematical and theoretical content. Marks above 70% in SPH3U and grade 11 University Math courses are highly recommended. Prerequisite: SPH3U1
