VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Cook Needed: Friday Lunches Math/Science Tutors Needed: All Mornings Please contact us for more information. The Triangle Program depends on the interest and generosity of many, many people to help us create a strong community. This community is essential for the students to experience expanded opportunities and success in their lives. TUTORS: Mornings at the Triangle Program are organized so that students work independently on a range of subjects and credits at their own pace. These subjects can include: English (writing/re-writing, reading, essays), Geography, Science, Math, History, Careers (resumes and such), and more. As a tutor, you will commit to a regular morning a week to work one-on-one with students doing individual credits, as well as supporting the teachers with marking and organization. You will get lots of support from the teachers on strategies, resources and teaching techniques. (You do not need to be proficient in all subject areas! If you have any concerns about your strengths and/or weaknesses, please let us know.) COOKS: The Triangle Program has a lunch/nutrition program every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This meal may be the only nutritious meal a student gets in their day and is also important in helping us develop a strong community. As a cook, you will commit to a regular day a week to plan, shop for and prepare a healthy nutritious meal. The Program will reimburse you for the cost of the meal and will take responsibility for the clean-up. TRIANGLE PROGRAM SCHOOL COUNCIL: (see listing for the School Council on the left) DEVELOPING CURRICULUM: Teachers at the Triangle Program are always developing new curriculum that can be organized into independent credits. In particular, we need support in Math (at the grade 10 and 11 level), English (to develop an Independent Media Unit/Credit), Health (an independent issues based Unit). As well we need support in refining the .5 Careers credit and a Grade 11 Guidance Credit - Designing Your Future. If you are a teacher, academic and/or a person with skills and resources: if you are comfortable working with colleagues and negotiating expectations and outcomes as well as skilled at working independently to complete a project - then you are the person for us. The teachers in the Triangle Program are prepared (would be thrilled actually) to work with you and support you in developing independent units/credits that would be effective for students in the Program.
