MISSION STATEMENT
(developed in 1992)

Withrow Public School is a dynamic community of life-long learners working together towards equity and excellence through trust, co-operation, mutual respect and critical thinking in the pursuit of knowledge.

To this end:
We accept the challenge of working for positive change.
We foster an inclusive environment where the contributions of all are encouraged.
We take responsibility for our actions, interactions and learning.
We seek ways to become confident decision-makers and socially responsible citizens.

On the following pages you will find information for Withrow parents and students about the curriculum programming, policies, scheduled events, and more. Simply pass your cursor over the colour-coded section headings at the top of the page to access drop down menus of the information presented on this site. Clicking on the topics headings will take you directly to that information. To return to this Home Page at any time, simply click on the Withrow 'W' crest.

This site was developed to facilitate communication between parents, students and the school. Where possible we have provided hyperlinks to further information for your convenience. Unfortunately, we can not presently provide hyperlinks to emails of our staff and parent volunteers in an attempt to protect them from being gathered and used by indiscriminate marketing organizations. Where possible, we direct you to an attached document listing the correct email addresses, or we may spell it out for you without the 'at' symbol as we have for the school office.

Please appreciate that this Web site, launched in February 2003, is updated by volunteers and will always be, 'a work in progress'. If you have any ideas, suggestions or concerns, or wish to volunteer your services, please address the Principal or Webmaster, c/o the school office listed on the About Us page.

MESSAGES

FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND VICE-PRINCIPAL

Welcome to the website of Withrow Public School. Our school provides excellent programming in both French and English in accordance with the Ontario Curriculum Guidelines. We value diversity, equity and above all partnership with our parents and our community. We provide a safe and nurturing environment where our students can develop their full potential academically, physically, artistically and emotionally. The open concept design of the school mirrors our belief in social and professional openness. Withrow Public School is a learning community which encourages ongoing and continuous improvement by all stakeholders. This website was established and is monitored by our home and school association, one of our learning partners. We hope you find their efforts useful.

Principal and Vice-Principal

FROM WITHROW'S SCHOOL COUNCIL
(made up of parents, Withrow staff and members of the community and known as the Withrow PTA)

Dear Parents:
Withrow has a longstanding commitment to encourage parental involvement in the school. Everywhere you turn you will see parent volunteers at work: helping in the library, running fundraising events, volunteering in the classroom, gardening, troubleshooting computer problems, inspecting heads for lice, gathering up lost & found articles and contributing to the many committees that help the school to function- you name it, we do it! Last year our volunteers contributed more than 5,000 hours, an invaluable contribution that surpasses even our significant fundraising efforts.

Parental involvement is an essential component of an effective school. It enriches the educational experience for our children, contributes resources that enhance the curriculum, and helps improve the environment, both physically and academically. We encourage you to help out in any way that you can: participating in school activities, contributing your ideas at monthly meetings, and communicating with staff members. There is a parent representative assigned to each classroom to facilitate your contact with the School Council. Please take a moment to talk with your Class Rep, or talk with your child's teacher about ways to contribute.

We welcome your involvement and hope you'll join us!
